Note re "Sounds of the Seventies": Most sessions were given two airings, six weeks or more apart. Selected tracks were also aired on occasions by different presenters (Alan Black and Bob Harris, among others) in the "Sounds of the Seventies" slot. In the 1970s the BBC's Radio 1 didn't have its own FM channel. The earliest programmes in the series were broadcast only on medium wave, except where carried by the more enlightened of the BBC local radio stations. In the autumn of 1971 the network began to be switched at 2200 each weekday evening to give R1's serious rock slot access to the FM outlet normally occupied by R2. This later became a full stereo service.
BBC Sessions double CD we compiled in 2000 for the now-defunct members' library.
