The Horses In The Water
Lyric by Clive James, music by Pete Atkin
White horses,
The sails are full above the hulls
The bright blue sky is full of gulls
Green water,
The fish are there a long way down
The ferries cross them on the way from town
It must be that way still:
They couldn't drain the sea or level out the hill
There's bound to be some trees they couldn't kill
A beach untouched, a bay they couldn't fill.
Grey hillsides,
The sails are furled above the hulls
The night-time sky is free of gulls
Black water,
The sharks are there a long way down
The ferries cross them on the way to town.
