The writer and broadcaster Clive James was so taken by his portrait-painter, Laura Smith (http://www.clivejames.com/gallery/painting/smith), that he has written her a poem, to be published this September in his second book of verse, Angels over Elsinore. Smith painted James's portrait in 2005, and is now at work on a painting of the composer Michael Nyman.
James said: "I find it encouraging that a painter so young should be so determined to study the human form with such analytical intensity, and enshrine the results with such lyrical grace. There is an unashamed joy to the people in her pictures, as if they had found the secret of relaxation."
