Title: Ed Driscoll
Post by S J Birkill on Today at 14:33
Those who attended our original 'FoD', the Monyash Folk Festival in 1997, may remember Ed, who helped us organise the event. We have just learned of his sudden death on May 20th.

Ed was an active member of the Derbyshire Peak District folk scene, leading his own 4-piece band 'Smithy's Brew', well known on the local pub circuit. He was a familiar face to ramblers passing through Monyash, where he ran the Smithy Café with his wife Ruth, providing a much-needed and ever-friendly service to those who came to walk Lathkill Dale and the surrounding hills.

Smithy's Brew played at the festival marquee in our bottom field during that August afternoon, and Ed joined Pete on stage at the end of the event, along with our other evening guests Brent Mason and Julie Covington, for a rousing rendition of Ready for the Road.

Ed's funeral is on Thursday in Monyash. Besides Ruth, he leaves three sons.
