Title: Cancelled: This weekend's gigs
Post by S J Birkill on Today at 17:26
Sorry to have to announce that Pete has today verified a suspected COVID infection, and is feeling a little unwell. He has wisely, but regrettably, had to cancel his appearances at Ambleside and Middlesbrough this coming Friday and Saturday. He writes (in another place) :

"DAMN DAMN DAMN - I was headachy and chesty yesterday, and worse this morning, enough for Mary to say I should take a Covid test, which I did, and what do you know?   Just a couple of mins after dropping the gunk into the doodah, wham bam positive.   It's my first positive in all this time, but that doesn't help the prospects for a long drive tomorrow and two solo gigs on Friday and on Saturday, so I'm going to have to pull myself out of them.   I was looking forward so much to both of them, after the triumphs of last year, but I have to be realistic.   I hope they'll both be willing and able to make a replacement booking before too long.  Meanwhile apologies to everyone who was planning to come, and hopes that you'll be able to come to the re-bookings.  Back to Paracetomol City."

Get well soon, Pete!

Many still came to the Ambleside venue for a meal (excellent) having presumably booked accommodation they couldn't cancel. Fortunately the weather has been kind so I hope everyone has had an enjoyable time even without Pete.

Once we know there's no long-term damage to Atkin household health we'll start looking for a replacement date, and I hope we can liaise with Leigh at Middlesbrough.

Title: Pete's COVID: The worst is past
Post by S J Birkill on 22.09.24 at 17:18
I'm pleased to report that Pete is feeling better -- his symptoms have receded and it seems the worst is past. His cough is persisting for the moment, but the aches and pains have gone. It's left him lacking his usual stamina -- a short walk yesterday left him exhausted, but he's hopeful of being back to full strength before too long.

His condition over the past couple of days has demonstrated his wisdom in cancelling the weekend's gigs, along with the attendant long drive up north, but he's now confident he'll be good for Cheltenham on the 4th.

Pete will be posting more news (good news, we hope) here in a day of two.

In solidarity with Pete I decided that I too would go down with Covid. Or maybe it wasn't really my choice since I was struck down at the tail end of a holiday in Portugal, somewhat spoiling my time in Porto. Like Pete I am over the aches and pains but I am still testing posiitve - fit enough to pick up my guitar but not well enough to take it out of the house. I am sure Pete would agree with me that, unlike the drummers' favourite wristwatch, Covid really IS a bummer. Get well soon Pete.
