I think that's a great idea!

I'm on Facebook, and would be happy to join a group - BUT: what would it do that MV doesn't do? I've joined several FB groups that reflect my interest, and they are all pretty moribund (maybe that says something about my interests...) So - cautious welcome from me.

I am on facebook and would join. I agree that this forum is perfect, but it is just possible facebook might help spread the word

That was really what I had in mind. In general, FB is a bit of a p*** in the wind but people out there may be doing 'Pete Atkin' searches and if a group existed it would at least serve to redirect them to the proper facility.

If anyone's interested in adding me to their friends list, the email address I use on FB is meansaxman at gmail dot com (no hubris intended - saxman was already taken!).  Actually, you'd be doing me a favour - I'm in a bet with someone to see who can get the most bona fide friends before the end of Jan!

Gerry

Any more for the merry-go-round?

Well, Bogus and I have been having a bit of a chinwag in the FB virtual coffee shop and the upshot is that we think a FB group called "Fans of Pete Atkin", would be a jolly good idea. Question is, do we append "fans of Clive James welcome"? On the basis that most people will be unaware of Clive's output as a Lyricist, it could be that more people can get introduced to Pete's music via CJ, than if we left his name out. Answers on a postcard.

Or better names.

Or any (physically possible) suggestions.

And input from the MV Deity?

How about "The Pete Atkin and Clive James Appreciation Society"?

Or "Senior Citizens: fans of Pete and Clive."  :(

I think we should avoid 'in-jokes' and puns on songs.  We are, after all, trying to encourage new blood into the fold.  I'm boring, I know but I would go with Leslie's suggestion.

Will I see anyone at Eastbourne on Wednesday - sorry wrong thread!

I've had some correspondence with a sax player of this parish on this topic, and I think the simple title is probably best, for the reasons Ian mentions. What say you, Gerry?

Yes, definitely. Keep it simple.

OK, so are we doing this, then? I think my initial scepticism has been overcome by being invited to join a Facebook group for the French chansonniere Barbara. I'd been introduced to her work via a Youtube clip posted by a friend, and now there's this group, through which I have found out lots that I didn't know. (Of course, I probably should have just asked Naomi, but I didn't think of that). The point is, a FB group can't compete with MV, nor should it- but, if my experience is anything to go by, it might help to attract some custom to this part of the web.
So- should I (or Gerry, or whoever) go ahead?

You'll find quite a lot about Barbara on the link below: her songs are rather good but a bit too overpoweringly French for me. Even when they're trying to be modest and understated they tend to go over the top to make sure we know this.

You should probably get permission from the photographer/copyright holder.

I certainly have no objection to the few photos that I've taken being used in that way.

Photo: mea culpa. Thanks for the offer Alexis, I will use one of yours if that's OK.
So - eight members in about three hours. At this rate there'll be more PA facebookers than, er, Elvis impersonators, or something.

So question is: what do we do now on Facebook? Or should I have asked on FB?

A couple more members overnight, and a change of pic- thanks Alexis (and I hope it's one of yours!)
Let's see how it goes- I suppose the possibility with Facebook is that more people might be drawn in through connections. We'll see- could be moribund in weeks...

In 'Screen-Freak' Cagney's getting big and Sidney Greenstreet's getting small and admittedly, "The Beautiful Stranger" thinks I should shed some pounds!! ::)
