Title: Screen-Freak
Post by Kevin Cryan on Today at 21:44
I've just spotted that the novelist Iain Banks (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iain_Banks) is championing Screen-Freak as his "ultimate lyric" in the Let’s Get Lyrical campaign created and run by Edinburgh UNESCO City of Literature (http://www.cityofliterature.com/index.aspx?sec=1&pid=1)

Quote:
.....My ultimate lyric, though, comes from Clive James, when he was first collaborating with Pete Atkin.  It’s from a song called ‘Screen Freak’, about somebody obsessed with movies. He writes about seeing Atlantis, Atlanta up in flames and plywood cities meeting their doom. Perfection

Hi Ian,

I did not put a link in because there is a link to the at the foot of Iain's full posting (http://letsgetlyrical.com/stories/celebrity-stories/iain-bankss-story-clive-james-and-pete-atkins-screen-freak/). If you don't want to use that one, then you might like to try this (http://www.peteatkin.com/c9c.htm), or maybe this (http://www.peteatkin.com/cgi-bin/mv/YaBB.cgi?board=Words;action=display;num=1130332699).

Banks' piece seems to have been edited rather ruthlessly: I can't imagine him quoting from Screen Freak without getting 'Atlantis down in bubbles, and Atlanta up in flames' precisely correct.
On the other hand,  I can't imagine him picking Desperados Under the Eaves over Poor, Poor Pitiful Me either (or spelling it wrong).
