Title: Clive sings Girl on the Train? Post by Rob Spence on Today at 10:34 I've had a highly entertaining correspondence with an Australian who chose me, apparently at random, to ask about how she could get a copy of Girl on the Train, which she remembered having on an old cassette - sung by Clive. I advised her in the way you might expect, and added that I thought it was unlikely to be Clive, for obvious reasons. She was, in the ensuing exchanges, very adamant that Clive's distinctive voice was the one she remembered. So, MV historians- does such an artefact exist? |

Title: Re: Clive sings Girl on the Train? Post by Pete Atkin on 14.02.11 at 09:31 I'm afraid I can't help you on this one. Even allowing for the recently demonstrated frailty of memory (see the Lady Of A Day thread) I'm as sure as can be that Clive has never sung this in my company. My guess is that the recording in question was a cheap and cheerful cassette taping of an off-the-cuff performance somewhere, one most unlikely to be documented anywhere at all, I'd have thought. I think the only way to find out more would be for Rob himself to ask the lady about its provenance. |

Title: Re: Clive sings Girl on the Train? Post by Rob Spence on 14.02.11 at 13:45 Thanks Pete. She's not the most reliable witness, from what I can gather, and she lost the cassette years ago, but remembered the song. So my guess is that she'd heard you sing it, associated it with Clive, and developed a false memory of a rendition by him. |
