Title: National Steel Post by Blether on Today at 21:31 Just recently recommended that I listen to 'National Steel' - any chance of putting an audio clip on the website? The lyrics look pretty good to me. |

Title: Re: National Steel Post by Ben Coulson on 16.03.06 at 00:13 While I can neither confirm or deny this request, I can recommend buying the album. If the Hillside shop has run out then eBay will surely deliver. As an aside, has anybody else noticed that the lyrics of "National Steel" will fit the tune of "Riders in the Sky" most notably recorded by The Shadows? Don't believe me? Try singing it to yourself... Seriously, though, if you don't own all six "original" Pete Atkin albums, and you have listened to, and enjoyed, the "sample" tracks available from the website, then I'm sure many MVs would join me in suggesting that they, along with "The Lakeside Sessions" and "Winter Spring" are well worth the invesment (time and money). |

Title: Re: National Steel Post by Stephen Chivers on 16.03.06 at 11:58 Having encountered PA's work in 1972/3 through scratched second-hand copies of BOTBS and DTMA, SD was the first 'new' PA album I purchased (I guess it must have been in 1974) and National Steel was a sensational track to listen to. It still remains a top ten favourite of mine after more than thirty years. I wonder if PA might play it at ThOD? |

That would indeed be a rare treat (I think I've only seen Pete play it live once). What would be even more interesting would be to hear Pete play something other than National Steel on the eponymous instrument - there's a challenge for you Pete! Cheers Paul |

Yes, thanks to Pete for rising to the challenge - for those who weren't there, Pete did a version of Tonight Your Love Is Over on the National Steel. A rare first! :) Cheers Paul |
