Title: My Dreams Are Troubled

A cover version of this James/Atkin composition is to be found if you click here [link] (http://thisisthis.blogspot.com/2005/11/new-song-my-dreams-are-troubled.html).

I cannot recall ever hearing Pete perform this song either as a recording or in concert, but it seems that Cliff Jones who posts his thoughts on the This is this blog [link] (http://thisisthis.blogspot.com/) has somehow got hold of a recording somewhere.

I see we do have a Cliff Jones as an ex-member in the old MV membership list (http://www.peteatkin.com/mv/register.php). His dates indicate he would have had access to the members' CD Library (http://www.peteatkin.com/mv/library.php), or perhaps he owns an original copy of WTML (http://www.peteatkin.com/dwtml.htm).

Either way, it's a shame he de-Atkinised the melody/chord sequence and de-Covingtoned the phrasing... sounds quite ordinary! Gorgeous song though, in the orginal.

Ah, the MVCDL!  How I wish I'd made hay while the sun shone.  But on the other hand, it's good to know there are more songs out there for me to discover. And yes, Steve, I can (only) imagine the original would be well worth hearing.

Can't seem to access the link to the cover version, but the blog - well, just confirms all my prejudices about blogs...

Well, not only has the song disappeared from Cliff's blog, but also from his page on the Soundclick free download site:
http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=60006
Curious -- perhaps he's been listening in to our criticism, and removed it in shame? Here's the Google cache of his intro and links to the song:

Just for the moment (and the curious), I've placed an MP3 copy in the members-only area (http://www.peteatkin.com/mv/index.php).

Or maybe because of worries over copyright issues?

At any rate -- well spotted Kevin! Completists' Corner salutes you!  At some point there may be a website listing from CC which slightly updates the 'covers etc.' info which is there already. But Kevin's discovery came just a few days late for inclusion in my submission to Steve.  Maybe, if you use my offering at all, Steve, you could slot this one in at the appropriate point -- or should I send you a formatted supplemental entry?

Incidentally, I was in two minds as to whether to include a reference to Lemon Jelly but in the end decided against it just in case: as Cliff has discovered, you never know who's watching !!

Cheers

Andy

Covers page shaping up nicely, ready in a day or three. If you could submit update(s) I'd be quite happy to insert them -- that'd ensure your authorial stamp was retained in the finished product. The Jelly might be worth a passing mention under Curios? (Pointing out of course that we don't really think they nicked the riff).

Ready already: Andy Love's PA Cover Versions Page (http://www.peteatkin.com/covers.htm). A feast for the completists!

There may be additions or amendments as they come through.

To Andy Love's Completist list should surely be added:-

'The Beautiful Changers-For Pete's sake'  (!) 1999

And (on a less teasing note!) can I echo the comments about a wider distribution of 'My wife hates Pete Atkin' I'd certainly be interested (and in the interests of clarity , my wife doesn't hate Pete Atkin)

And I've been wondering why the lyrics to Uncle Stephen have never made it on to the parody lyrics section. Too many in jokes? Modesty on the part of our webmaster?

Could it have been an oversight, I wonder? But hey, it's good!

Andy Love's PA cover versions page ; wonderful. - exactly what websites are for surely (ie many years of your life's work compressed down into a hugely enjoyable twenty minutes or so reading for the rest of us  :)) - fantastic - thanks Andy.
