Temporary problem with Registrations

We appear to have an issue at the moment with automatic mail-outs from the MV server. This is affecting new registrations and e-mail notifications. If you've attempted to register as a new member within the past 24 hours or so, your details may not have been forwarded to me for action. I apologise for this -- I'm working to identify the cause, and will follow up with a reply to this message as soon as I've fixed it. Stephen J Birkill, Admin, MV

This seems to be congestion at MV's hosting service, Dreamhost. Whether generated automatically by MV, manually by SSH log-in, redirected or forwarded through their mail servers, messages are getting delayed by several hours or lost altogether. Web hosting looks OK. Let's give 'em a few hours to sort it out: I'll report tomorrow. Steve

The Dreamhost people have identified an issue with their mail system. They report: "After investigation began, it was found that a number of machines within the greater email system were misconfigured and no longer processing customer logins or sorting mail correctly. While we have located the source of the issue, our teams removed the affected mail machines from production to get all customer mail services functional. We will be returning these servers back into production as soon as their proper configurations are restored and they are given the all clear." I just ran a test and observed a 7-minute delay. A bit better than the 14-hours (overnight) it took one of my tests yesterday to work its way through. We might be able to blame the 7 minutes on reduced capacity plus backlog -- I think it will improve. So I've decided to re-open MV for new member registrations. If you've submitted one in the last two or three days, please try again, and I'll get back to you with your log-in credentials a.s.a.p. Thank you for your patience. Steve Birkill, MV admin.
