Pasting from MS Word

If I'm going to post a long message I prefer to compose off-line on MS Word and then paste it in. It looks fine on the draft page, but when I preview or post every dash, apostrophe or quotation mark comes out as a 7 or 8 digit stream of gibberish, which I have to go back and alter. To make things worse, I don't seem to be able to edit at the preview stage, only after posting. Any ideas on why this happens and what to do about it? My browser is IE5.00.

Have you tried using Notepad instead?

I'd echo that — MS Word is using smart quotes which the pasting is turnng into the unicode equivalent. However, it may be that ticking the Disable Smileys: box below could overcome the problem, as that's what I did before pasting the text below into the message. Mac owners may disagree, I don't know. “This is an example of text pasted from MS Word – which uses smart quotes and apostrophes, as well as lengthening dashes. It’s enough to drive a man to drink.”

| Hmm, just tried the 'live preview' feature with IE5.00 (Win 2k). It doesn't seem to work, just opens a blank window, although the help text does work. So live preview needs IE6 (Win XP) I'm afraid. I'll change the note to make that clear.

| Steve - It works in IE 5.5 as well so you'd better change the note again!
