The Atkin Newsletter

Just a reminder that Pete's occasional Newsletter is implemented as an 'Announce List' on the peteatkin.com mailserver. As such it's a one-way channel: it doesn't accept replies, and the sending address is not monitored. So should you need to contact Pete privately -- this applies to those of you who aren't in regular contact with him and so don't have his private e-mail address -- your best approach will be via MV. You can use our Personal Message system to contact any member privately in much the same manner as posting publicly to the Forum. Just click "Message" from the top menu and then select "New Message" from the options above the column header bar. You need to know the recipient's Username, which may be different from the handle he or she uses on MV. Find that in the "Members" list, accessed from the top menu. In Pete's case it is "Tek_Painter". Pete will always respond to an incoming PM. To ensure that you can too, go to your "Profile" page (top menu again) and scroll down to "Personal Message Settings". Make sure that "Notify by e-mail", "Enable PM preview in PM-Centre" and "Enable Personal Message Popup" are all checked. It shouldn't need saying that your contact e-mail address needs to be up to date -- it's near the top on your "Profile" page. Then save your changes by clicking the "Change Profile" button at the bottom. While we're fixing things, you may have overlooked your Newsletter subscription. The system was revised in January 2011 (see This Post), and many members will have changed their e-mail addresses since then. The list is set up to automatically unsubscribe addresses after five consecutive 'bounces'. 66 addresses were removed just this week, leaving 574 active subscriptions. Pete circulated his latest newsletter, MV2403, on Thursday, so if you believe yourself subscribed but haven't seen this one, you should update your details. You need to unsub your old address first if it's still valid, and then subscribe again with the new. Use the form on the Smash Flops front page, or at the bottom of the Newsletter archive page, where you can also catch up with any editions you've missed. Steve
