We were all a bit miffed at The Word magazine's airbrushing of Pete in favour of the co-author of 'You're Beautiful', but perhaps we did the journal an injustice. As Pete intimated some time ago, the new edition, just out, includes a track from Midnight Voices ('Thief in the Night') on its free CD. I imagine that will be invaluable in bringing the songs to a new audience. Not only that, but on the letters page one Stephen 'Beany' Green (of this parish?) takes issue with Clive James's nomination of 'Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick' as the best lyric in a rock song, and instead nominates three unrepeatable lines from 'Rattlesnake Rock'. Hard to disagree.

Hi Stephen... and welcome to the parish. The Reverend Birkill will no doubt pop round for tea and biscuits in due course. And I'm glad to see you share my fondness for some of the neglected corners of Live Libel...

... And I'm glad to see you share my fondness for some of the neglected corners of Live Libel ... Having revisited those neglected corners, I am reminded that the recorded version of Uncle Seabird had a truncated lyric. Could we have Uncle Seabird in its originally imagined full glory on Volume 2 of the PA/CJ Songbook? Just an idle thought

Though he had no great gifts of personality or mind, he was quite well respected.
