St George's Bristol Sunday 16th January

Since I'm clearly not going to get a newsletter out in time, may I alert those of you who are within reach of Bristol -- or who know anyone who is -- to the following which has been sent to the Friends of St George's Bristol: " TSUNAMI RELIEF CONCERT: FUNDRAISING EVENT AT ST GEORGE'S BRISTOL THIS SUNDAY JANUARY 16TH - 3PM "Following the tragic events in the Indian Ocean, the St George's Bristol concert venue is presenting a musical concert on the afternoon of Sunday January 16th to help raise further funds for the relief effort that is now under way. The venue will be playing host to a number of top musicians from around the Bristol area, all giving their time free of charge. "The event will run from 3pm to 6pm and will involve a wide range of artists and styles of music from jazz to classical, from Asian to choral and from folk to brass. Featured musicians will include: Andy Sheppard (saxophone) The Gasworks Singers Leon McCawley (piano) Pete Atkin (vocals and guitar) Kauser Habib (vocals and tabla) Tim Hugh (cello) The City of Bristol Brass Band "The concert is to be compered by the BBC Points West presenter Chris Vacher. "Tickets for this event are on sale now at the St George's Bristol Box Office 0117 923 0359 and cost just £10 (£5 for children) with all ticket monies going to DEC (the Disaster Emergencies Committee). It is hoped that this event will raise over £5,000 for the Disaster Relief Fund. "HOW YOU CAN HELP: This concert has been put together at very short notice to respond quickly to what has happened. This means that we have very little time to tell as many people as possible about this event. It would be great if you could support us in promoting this fundraising concert by forwarding this email on to any of your friends and colleagues in the Bristol area who you think might be interested in attending this event and supporting the DEC appeal." I'll be singing just 3 or 4 oldies with guitar (just to keep it technically simple). And then afterwards, why not make a day of it and drop in on the Bristol Folk House Acoustic Festival just 100 yards down Park Street for the 8pm set by the Shrinks? Pete

Thanks for the thought, Seán, but probably all I meant was that I wouldn't be doing anything new. But since no MVs were present it might have been a good opportunity to try something out. Hang on a minute, that didn't come out quite right . . .
