The Sydney Morning Herald Best Australian Poems 2015 review: The need for patterned language January 8, 2016 - 12:15AM Peter Kenneally Best Australian Poems 2015 Ed., Geoff Page. Photo: Supplied POETRY Best Australian Poems 2015 ED., GEOFF PAGE BLACK INC., $24.99 Quote: As one reads, it feels as if there is a particular sense of loss, both past, present, and in prospect in this year's poems. This may be because not that many of the poets seem to be under 40, or even 50, and consequently the mortality of the poets and their parents hangs, not heavily, but inescapably, over much of the book. For an Australian collection, it gives everything a surprisingly crepuscular, yet elegiac feel. Clive James doubtless has enough of a sense of humour left to find it amusing that he is still there*, being excellent, touchingly fading away, as he was in the 2013 edition. |
