Sunday Morning Walk

Clive has a new poem, called Sunday Morning Walk, in the July 9 edition of the New Yorker magazine. In parts, it reminded me of an early Craig Raine or Christopher Reid poem from the short-lived Martian school of verse (poetic pastiche, perhaps?):

"Beside the college moat

Meet a clutch of matrons
Collared-up in Barbours
Walking their collies
Freshly brushed by Gainsborough..."

or later:

"Under the bridge, the iron ribs
Form a pigeon loft,
A pit line of sports saloons
Testing their engines."
