Standout parody lyrics

Have you word-fans on this thread looked at the parody lyrics on the Discography section of Pete's site? An idle moment found me browsing through them for (mostly) mild amusement, but I found two that I thought were classics of the 'other side of the story' genre. In the BOTBS section Roy Brown gives us the girl's viewpoint for 'Girl on the Train', and had me literally curled up with laughter: I don't know whether this is despite or because of my finding Clive's original one of his most touching takes on love lost (or not found, in this case!). Do take a look at Roy's 'Gargoyle on a Drain' - under the Smiley at right. It looks like this version was performed at the FoD gathering, so perhaps it isn't such an undiscovered gem as I imagine. Then flip to Mythical America for Tom Holt's 'Impractical Man': several good chuckles in there, even for those of us whose instincts are with the artist rather than the agent. I think Clive would enjoy both of these!

and listen to a snatch of Gargoyle - sung by our very own Carole Birkill & Julia Daly - still available I believe at http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~gunning/changers.html Is the original cd still available ? Or if not how possible would it be for Secret Drinker to put up full-song mp3s? Just idle thoughts! cheers Seán

>"Is the original cd still available ? Or if not how possible would it be for Secret Drinker to put up full-song mp3s?" I have my copy of the CD here, and would be happy to put full mp3 tracks online, as I have some webspace free on another site I run. I would appreciate some input, especially from Steve and Pete before I do this, such things as copyright and fair use come into the equation. Perhaps a couple of tracks, specifically the parodies such as Gargoyle on a Drain and Impractical Man, would be OK. My limited knowledge of copyrights and such leads me to believe that a parody of a copyrighted work is permitted under fair use rules. A track listing of the performance (and therefore the CD) can be found at http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~gunning/changers.html. I am beginning to think that it's about time the Changers got back together again with as many original members as possible, and perhaps a couple of new ones. Any volunteers? I now play the accordion and I can do a pretty good rendition of The Flowers and the Wine... -=# Ben Coulson #=-

I think Paul's Changers page has improved since I last checked it. Here is MV's own listing of the Changers' CD. Click on the album cover art for a larger version, and again to see Pete taking in the afternoon set at my old place in Derbyshire (you need to be logged in to see this). There's also a review and photos from the 1999 event. Time for a second album? Steve

| Eh?! I haven't changed it for about 2˝ years - I just looked at it myself and it's badly in need of a facelift to drag it into the 21st century, like most of the rest of that site (As for a Changers reunion, yes, good idea. I was thinking the other day I wouldn't mind an excuse to get the electric gutter out ) Cheers Paul Sitting in the noontide gloom in Herts, and wondering whether to put the light on

Changers to Reform!?! Go Changers! I'd love to see / hear you again - my god I nearly offered to drum for you at the school of dreams - I've never held a drumstick before but I thought how hard can it be? - luckily I recognised my enthusiasm might be wildly outstripping ability (again!) in time. But yes please more Changers - and yes please some mp3's - including those school of dreams numbers please! Seán

Blimey, should The Changers reform? IIRC, we split over artistic differences (and the departure of our drummer didn't help matters at the SoD!). I must say that a reunion gig sounds fun provided that we get some practice in first - lack of that certainly let us down at SoD compared to FoD where Pete even felt that his reputation would not be irreparably damaged by allowing us to accompany him - that still remains my supreme musical moment. And I got a real keyboard now with some stonking sounds as well as an electro-acoustic guitar. The problem of course remains that of geographical inaccessability. But if Mr Corfield is listening, his local hall was a pretty cool venue, and it's conveniently located for visiting my son at Uni. How about it guys? Leslie

I've just been editing Dave Jones' virtual LP of parody lyrics, A First Folly, adding 6 more recent 'bonus' parodies for the virtual CD re-issue. Find it here. Steve PS - No, there isn't a real CD available! (And won't be unless the Changers re-form).

The Atkin/James lyric parody lives! Michael Wheeler posted his version of Sessionman's Blues on the Facebook Pete Atkin and Clive James Appreciation Society page. I've given it its rightful place in our Discography. More parodies indexed here. Steve
