this has probably been asked before but is it possible that the private pressings of 1967 'While the Music Last' and 1969 'The partys moving on' could be re-recorded / issued on CD to allow us all to own the complete collection. Surely after all this time whatever copywrite existed should be clear? I appreciate that the Monyash CD is different '' if you wern't there then it's just hard luck hard luck '' can anything be done? Hi Steve Circumstances haven't changed in almost 10 years since we discontinued the Members' CD Library in 2001. Read the archived MV posts from the first two weeks of November 2001 to understand the reasons we pulled the plug and the sentiments expressed by members. I think that even if Pete could expect to cover his costs in making the recordings commercially available today, he would face insurmountable obstacles in obtaining the agreement of the other contributors. Remember that as recently as last year member John Leonard had to remove his own recordings of the A&R songs from his Website because of objections from one of the performers, 32 years on. Steve

Hi Steve, many thanks for all the info. I heartily agree that even 10 years on, any action that reduces the sales, and also the potential release of new material must still be curtailed. I'd just hoped that something may have moved on in the last decade! One hopes that Pete may eventually consider releasing what he can in the furure. Steve B

while perusing the archives from 2001, I came acreoss an interesting quote from Pete: In MV7327 Dave Barret wrote >Both Fairport and Richard Thompson have issued fan-only cassettes > of live performances and unreleased tracks over the years. > Since the advent of cheap-to-make CDs, RT has released several >small quantity "official bootlegs" of gigs, partly no doubt so he >could make a few pennies on them, but probably also to let tru-fans >have decent quality live recordings. Pete replied: Interesting. I didn't know about this. I do have some gig recordings, some of quite good quality, that were never available through the MVCDL. Watch this space. a question for Pete is has he ever given any more thought to the release of one or more of these live concerts. The Music is a form of constant change , evolving and developing, some through outside influence, some from musical familiarity, some just a change of style and yet more through age of both the performer and the song which at times can take on a life of its own. The release of some of the earlier live recordings would not detract from the current presentations, but would in many ways show how the living entity of the song has evolved. Listening to the original studio recording is simply a starting point. Without time travel the only way to appreciate the different interpretations, and different instruments used is those now rare live recording. So Pete can you consider after all this time releasing an ''Official Bootleg'' of a couple of these early gigs. Steve B

| Barenaked Ladies produce USB sticks of their live performances which you can buy as you leave the gig!! I don't know whether they do it for all concerts but they also put them online, and I was certainly able to buy a recording of a concert that I missed in Southampton last year. | Gales is no more? Ah, the fond memories of student nights in Southampton, drinking our way right through their country wines. At the end of the evening, the lines of coloured bottles really did swim and glow!

what do we do now the've closed the Brewery..........(Gales Ales R.I.P.) Gales is no more? Ah, the fond memories of student nights in Southampton, drinking our way right through their country wines. At the end of the evening, the lines of coloured bottles really did swim and glow! Sadly simon, Gales Ales was sold to Fullers some 6 years ago, the good news however is that fullers are still maketing Gales as a seperate division, although all the licenced houses have been rebadges as Fullers. A further bit of good news is that they are still producing that amazing collection of country wines, as poverty stricken students back in the early seventies I well remember sharing Prawn Sandwiches on crusty bread with a bottle of wheat and raisin or dry redcurrent while sitting in front of the fire at the 'Red Lion' in Chalton.... oh memories. now drinking a mug of hot chocolate listening to my latest birthday present from the children, ....Secret Drinker / Live Libel my cd collection is once again complete. steve

And they closed Young's Ram Brewery in Wandsworth back in '06. If I still lived in Wandsworth I am not sure I would have survived that horror
