This review appears in The Observer Review dated 18.05.08 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Sarah Moule A Lazy Kind of Love (Red Ram) £12.99 | The great American lyricist has lived quietly in London for decades. No one ever revealed the panic beneath a brittle smile with quiet such devastating precision. In recent times, she has found perfect collaborators in the composer-pianist Simon Wallace and singer Sarah Moule, and their joint work accounts for 10 of these 14 tracks. Delicately arranged and played by a cast of our top musicians (Alan Barnes, Alec Dankworth et al), they show that Fran is still in great form. Add one of the best Atkin-James songs and a few more goodies and you have a little treasure. DAVE GELLY | >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Kevin Cryan NB. This review is not to be found in the online version of The Observer.

Thanks for pasting and posting this, Kevin. I have been listening to ALKOL for a few weeks now and can recommend it, along with Sarah's other two albums, to MV's and anyone else who likes "smart songs" tastefully performed. And there's a familiar voice singing the harmony on "Living in Overdrive". Keith

| This first sentence should have read "The great American lyricist Fran Landesman has lived quietly in London". When I was drafting the piece I had put a link to her site under Fran's name, but for some reason I failed to paste either name or link into the final version. As there is no direct link to Dave Gelly's piece, the omission has to be corrected. My apologies. Kevin Cryan

Don't worry, Kevin, you more than made up for the omission by correcting The Observer's having performed an undoubtedly unwanted gender change in the third sentence.

There's a telling stanza of Fran's in Living In Overdrive: Music and words are our business Are we a magical blend? Everyone wants to be helpful What are they willing to spend? Sound familiar? And Sarah delivers it in an effortlessly fluid contralto that makes you think she's channelling Karen Carpenter... SJB
