I'd be interested to know how Pete feels about actually making an album. I ask because I just spent 5 days recording a very simple song with a bare minimum of instruments in a studio and it was among the most boring periods of my life. At least I know now why musicians turn to drink and drugs.

Five days to record one song? Blimey. What were you doing? None of my 70s albums took as long as that, including brass and string overdubs, and probably most of the mixing. I guess that's one of the downsides of the way recording has become easier and cheaper: there's no longer the same pressure to get stuff done which forces you to concentrate. No, I always did - and still do - enjoy the process of recording. It's not the fault of books that some people write tediously. Still, I hope the finished product was worth it.
Let's try the whole thing again.

Try getting Shanghaied into an all night studio session (cheaper), finding you're not needed for hours because the singer's stoned and can't get it right and when she does she's flat, trying to get a bit of kip in the easy chairs in reception only to be kept awake by a variety of talking birds chuntering away, eventually being dragged back into the studio at 5.30AM, having a pair of cans clamped to your head, having a sax draped around your neck, stood in front of a mic and then expected to play something inspirational off the top of your head while the engineer nonchalently lights another fag!
Sure had the Sessionman's Blues that night

From what I remember, you were half way there already, mate 
(My only experience of 'proper' recording in a studio (so far anyway) was this summer, and as luck would have it the sessions were arranged for the hottest days of the year. The studio was in an upstairs room and the windows couldn't be opened while recording. It played havoc with the guitar and fiddle tuning, and the necessity of consuming large amounts of beer to keep cool probably played havoc with everything else. There was a fan we switched on between takes, and after one particularly good take, the engineer told us we had forgotten to switch the fan off - nobody had noticed, and he hadn't had the heart to stop us as it was going so well, but we had to bin it because the mics had picked up the noise and ruined it  )

Well, when I say 5 days, I don't mean five days nonstop. I took some time out to drink enough whisky to put the horror of singing and listening to the same song out of my mind for a few hours. The problem is I can't really sing in tune and despite the miracle of software which can doctor the wrong notes only by singing very quietly can I hit certain notes which means you can't hear me at all. Nothing wrong with that, some would say, possibly including myself.
Might try a PA song next time.

Well, there was some talk at ThoD of a Changers reunion, if only for old times' sake, but I guess getting around to organising something is the problem - everybody seems busy, busy, busy these days.
