Re-recordings of 1970s songs?

I mentioned to Pete on Saturday (I'm not name dropping, honest!) the idea that was mooted a while back, that Pete should make some re-recordings of his old material, originally issued on the first 6 albums - well, the first 5, anyway. He said the idea was still being considered as a real possibility (apologies if I'm taking liberties with the paraphrasing, Pete, but I can't remember your exact words). A few of us who were chatting at the time agreed it would be better not to attempt to re-create the original arrangements, but for Pete to do something a bit different with the songs, as he does in gigs. Not for its own sake, but to do them in a style that Pete now feels is appropriate, after the lapse of 30+ years. This would have the benefit of getting some of Pete's and Clive's best songs available again on CD, and allowing converts (who missed the window when the CDs of the 1970s output were available) to hear some of them, as well as allowing us obsessives / anoraks / collectors - or just fans - to get hold of some different versions for our collections. I think this must have been raised before, but I couldn't easily find it in the present forum - it may have been covered in the old email version of MV - I wonder whether MVs have any suggestions as to which songs they think would be the best ones to include on such an album? For starters, I would like to propose Rider to the World's End and Thief in the Night. (Of course it may be that Pete has already decided on a track listing, but I thought this would be fun anyway!) Cheers Paul

| Perhaps, after his success with TYLIO at ThOD, Pete might consider an album of Steel arrangements from the back catalogue?
