I'm not sure if there were any MVs present in Cheltenham on Friday - perhaps not - but there was a good crowd of a hundred-odd, and some of them went away with CDs so I hope we made a few converts.

As billed, it was a moderated conversation between me and Rowan Williams about poems and songs and writing them, with readings and performances tucked in as appropriate.  In the course of the evening, the songs I sang were

You Can't Expect To Be Remembered (seemed like a good one to start with)
Canoe
Have You Got A Biro?
Care-Charmer Sleep
Perfect Moments
A King At Nightfall
Thirty Year Man

The whole event was Andrew Taylor's idea and he was a great moderator and a most effective and considerate organiser.  The one thing he couldn't have planned for was an even worse than usual accident on the M5 not far out of Bristol (both directions closed - a southbound truck had flipped over onto the northbound side) which kept us stationary for two and three quarter hours and which meant that I arrived just fifteen minutes before we were due to start, so no time for a soundcheck or a bite to eat or even a minute or two to collect what I like to think of as my thoughts.   But everyone was understanding and tolerant and I think we got away with it OK.   There was even talk at the end about the possibility of doing something similar again.   But maybe without the road accident.

Apart from all of that, I'm pleased to report that my Covid symptoms, while they are still hanging about a bit, have continued to dwindle away enough to enable me to return to business.   And many thanks for all your good wishes.
